Hána, Petr ; Jirásková, Věra (referee) ; Havlůjová, Hana (referee)
1950s may be classified as one of the worst periods in Czechoslovakia's history. The totalitarian communist regime in the period between 1948 and 1953 is called the Stalinism. The primary objective hereof was to evaluate teaching about the Stalinism period in Czechoslovakia in secondary schools, in particular, to assess the scope of correctness and completeness of the related curriculum and teaching methods. The secondary objective hereof was to introduce and describe the Stalinism as a typical example of totalitarianism and to define crucial elements of this non-democratic form of government using the example of Czechoslovakia from 1948 to 1953. The thesis proceeds from the theoretical part via a case study to the practical part. The first part classifies totalitarianism, defines its historical outset and determines its main features. The second chapter describes and explains the Stalinism, which is a typical example of totalitarianism having functioned in practice in the Soviet Union from where it spread to the majority of the Communist countries, including Czechoslovakia. Neutrality of humanitarian organisations in armed conflicts: People in need in Eastern Ukraine
Novotná, Zuzana ; Šír, Jan (advisor) ; Lídl, Václav (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with neutrality of humanitarian organisations in armed conflicts. The aim of the thesis is to show on a case study of Czech humanitarian organisation People in need in Eastern Ukraine what are the limits and what are the opportunities of the humanitarian principle of neutrality. Chapters about theory of humanitarian aid and humanitarian situation in Eastern Ukraine create a base for the following case of People in need. People in need provide humanitarian relief in Eastern Ukraine since August 2014. Thanks to the principle of neutrality the organisation could have worked in both, the area under control of Ukrainian government and the area administrated by separatist's quasi-states in Eastern Ukraine. Time frame of the thesis is from summer 2014 to the end of 2016 when "Donetsk poeple's republic" has not extended PiN's registration. The case study shows that the main limit of the principle is trying to be seen as neutral. However thanks to fulfilling the principle of neutrality, the organisation can get to people who need the humanitarian aid the most.
Purpose of epicentrum agency and marketpace for a new agency after its closure
Kohout, Jan ; Trunečková, Ludmila (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This thesis recapitulates activities of Epicentrum agency which was reporting from the crisis places in the world and due to its termination of activities it attempts to define the meaning of Epicentrum. There is no doubt that Epicentrum was unique, but the important thing is to understand the causes and circumstances of its establishment and actions and to describe the way Epicentrum worked, including the both positive and negative aspects. Since the days of Epicentrum the world of media has changed fundametally (although it has not been that long). There is the phenomenon of media internetisation which the traditional media do not know how to deal with. Consequences of digitization have meant significant changes in journalists' work and the theme of this thesis is how could similar agency operate in these days. Today the proccess of producing the reports from the field is faster and cheaper which is advantage, on the other hand it is much easier to gather the large amount information for free these days and it is hard to convince media to buy it from such an agency. Therefore the integral part of this work is also a reflection on the value of on-the-spot reporting and its subsequent application possibilities on the market.
